The world’s largest mobile phone company, Nokia has decided to start a design studio in Bangalore in partnership with a local school of art.

Nokia is looking to get an idea of what trends lie ahead in one of the world’s fastest growing markets for mobile phones. Given India’s pencant for non-conformist designers and the huge diversity factor, Nokia stands to gain enormously. It also hopes to parlay these "designed in India" products into markets outside the Asian sub-continent.

"India is a dynamic and inspiring place for designers
with its diverse mix of cultures, traditions and colour," said Alastair
Curtis, Nokia’s chief designer. "The new satellite studio will help us further develop
our understanding of this vibrant country and to work more closely with
its extremely talented designers."

Read more here.
