“So far, India has only a dozen design programs, compared with 241 in China. There are 300 design colleges in Korea, in contrast to India’s 10. While China churns out 30,000 design students annually, India produces just one-third of that number. As it’s Asian counterparts move far ahead of the competition in terms of raising a design conscious populace and encouraging the arts, Indian government ramps up it’s design program offerings by making the design discipline a national priority.
In order to achieve it’s<a href=”http://pib.nic.in/release/release.asp?relid=24647″> goals</a>, the government of India has planned the following among other initiatives: setting up design hubs and innvation centers with access to financial resources, encouraging the design talent of India via competitions and national awards, encouraging Indian design firms to strike strategic alliances with foreign firms and setting up an India Design Council.
