Lstr Checked out Lucky Strike this weekend and paused infront of the huge DRESS CODE banner at the entrance.

Does it read the same to you as it does to me? Eh, so tasteless. I understand a private firms concern about maintaining a certain image, but does one have to be so obvious about it, really?

Even though the food, service and decor was fantastic, I don’t particularly feel like giving them a decent recommendation.

(btw, I forgot to take a picture but I knew I could count on Flickr users for this image!)

  1. Wow so obvious. I can’t believe they put that up.

  2. I find it extremely funny that they kept specifying “execessively” like excessively long tee shirts! but long is ok… they should have just specified a measurement – no Tees over 25″ long.

Hey Jinal, it’s been a while since i have posted a comment but, I do read your blog regarly. Well the sign was quite explicit… and extremely funny, if u live in the NY/NJ metro area. Well they could have just said no ‘Niggers’ allowed. Like Chris Rock puts it, “I love black people, but I hate niggers”.

Which Lucky Strike did you go to anyway?

  4. SG — I went to the one in Philadelphia..the city of brotherly love!

  5. Tacky. Tacky. Tacky. ( the sign )

    Damm !! that’s painful .. seriously .. I mean talk about being a little discreet maybe ..

They didnt say anything about ‘Goth Attire’, to piss them off I would just go dress like a goth and still meet all the “Dress Code” requirements ..

  7. Hi Jinal,
Been busy and just caught up with your blogs for past few months. Great posts as always. Is this dress code for real? Unbelievable. Who owns Lucky Strike ? Is it owned by a klan member who has been knighted by the queen, lives in a french chateau, runs a plantation in the south and bankrolls the republican party convention in some hick town?

  8. What do they do in winter when people have to wear long jackets?

I would so not make it in to this place. And I would so not miss it – no amount of good service or food is enough to make up for such pretentious codes.

Isn’t Lucky Strike a private firm in itself? As per that you have included a sentence that seconds their Dress Code policy! They probably have a ‘certain’ image to preserve. They would have been better off just jotting down what people should wear; it would have made a smaller list. Or have a members only scheme, where membership is about $500/month.

  10. Hi,

    Nice blog!

Why don’t you consider writing about some of the new “India 2.0” sites that are creating a little buzz as well?

    Eg: http://www.ilaaka.com

    http://www.onyomo.com

    Thanks!

  11. Jinal,
I was just at the Philly location also. I thought the service was bad. I was with a group and had trouble using the bowling control panel. Had to go all the way to shoe desk to get some help. Told them sould be like Disneyland;people should be walking around that just offer help and make event a great experience rather then leaving guest to figure out on own. I think they have LA Hippness disease. Trying too hard to be cool rather than trying hard to please customer. I felt service was slow and didn’t get a sense of urgency. I think they will fizz out fast with that attitude.
